Back in the early 2010's I was just gaining voice and momentum as a photographer whilst simultaneously wranglingadventuring being squashed and reshaped by motherhood. I had 2 under 2. The days felt like weeks, weeks like a flash...
I'd always been a picture person but living the "they grow so fast" experience created a guts-deep need to create and offer portraits that marked the details, postures, interests, expressions, and phases in real ways that would take us back and help us notice.
Sure we had iphone pics and yes, every year or so family photos but this desire far outpaced my want/need/energy for "everyone together" family photos (I was also in an unhappy marriage and didn't love how family portraits felt).
So I started offering Children's Portraits.
Short, kids first, no stress sessions that wove heirlooms out the fleeting.
Offered a few times a year the sessions always sold out. And why not?
Sessions were fun: we played, we told jokes, we had little snacks and we all left happy. I showed kids as they were and let them be them.
Families came away with timeless portraits preserved in albums and prints, shareable on social media (I'm still tagged in these photos as the first wave of kids are now entering their 20s!)
Time has done what time does. My own 2 are teenagers now (15 &16), my parents have all passed, middle age has made me ever more into a picture person. The portraits I made of my own children back then have proved to be the priceless touch points in remembering and tracing life for them and me....
I'm so happy that after a 5 year break, Children's Portraits are back
My books are open from now to Winter break with weekend and weekday availability.
